Instructions and tips for self-injecting the REKOVELLE® ready-to-use pen

Instructions for use

Dear Patient,

These instructions will help you to prepare the ready-to-use pen properly so that you can then inject the medicine in the best possible way.

Please note the following information:

The REKOVELLE® ready-to-use pen must not be used until your doctor has shown you how to prepare and inject the pen correctly.

Read the operating instructions in the pen package completely before using the REKOVELLE® pen and each time you get a new ready-to-use pen.

Use a new needle for each injection.

Contact your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions about using REKOVELLE®.

Wash your hands.

Check that the ready-to-use pen is not damaged. Do not use the ready-to-use pen if it is damaged.

Do not use the ready-to-use pen if the medicine in the cartridge does not look clear or contains particles.

Make sure you have the correct ready-to-use pen with the correct dosage size.

Check the expiry date on the label of the ready-to-use pen.

Take all the elements out of the package and lay them out on a clean surface so that they are easy to find.

  • Please note that the needles must be disposed of properly.
  • If you have any questions, please talk to your doctor or pharmacist.

Attaching the needle

Remove the pen cap.

Remove the protective film from the needle and insert the needle.

Remove the outer and inner needle protection caps.

Do not throw away the outer needle protection cap!

Before using the ready-to-use pen for the first time, you must remove the air bubbles.

If the ready-to-use pen has already been used, proceed directly to step 3.

Turn the dosage ring clockwise until a drop symbol appears in the dosage window and is level with the dosage indicator.

  • Hold the ready-to-use pen with the needle pointing upwards.
  • Tap your finger against the cartridge holder so that all the air bubbles in the cartridge rise to the top.

Continue to hold the needle upwards (away from the face) and press the injection button down as far as it will go until the number “0” appears in the dosage window and a drop of liquid comes out of the tip of the needle.

If no drop appears, repeat step 2 until a drop appears.

Turn the dosage ring clockwise until the prescribed dose appears in the dosage window and is level with the dosage indicator.

The area between two numbers is divided by two dashes, each dash corresponding to a dosing step of 0.33 micrograms.

The dose can be adjusted up or down without loss of medicine by turning the dosage ring in one direction or the other until the correct dose appears in the dosage window.

Clean the injection site with an alcohol wipe.

Squeeze the skin and insert the needle straight in as your doctor has shown you.

The dosage window should be visible to you during the injection.

Press the injection button down all the way and hold it there until the number “0” appears in the dosage window.

Wait 5 seconds, then you can release the injection button and slowly remove the needle from the injection site.

Carefully put the outer needle protection cap on the needle.

Unscrew the needle from the ready-to-use pen by unscrewing it anticlockwise.

Dispose of the used needle.

Put the pen cap back on the ready-to-use to protect it between injections.

Keep this medicine out of the reach of children.

  • Do not use this medicine after the expiry date which is stated on the label of the ready-to-use pen after “use by:” and on the outer carton after “use by:”.
  • The expiry date refers to the last day of the month indicated.

Store in the refrigerator (2 – 8° C). Do not freeze.

Before the first injection, store in the original packaging to protect the contents from light.

  • REKOVELLE® can be stored for up to 3 months including the period after opening, but not above 25° C.
  • It must not be refrigerated again and must be discarded if it has not been used after 3 months.

After opening: 28 days if not stored above 25° C.

At the end of treatment, any unused solution must be disposed of.

Do not dispose of medicines down the drain.

Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of the medicine when you stop using it.

This way, you contribute to the protection of the environment.

If you cannot set the prescribed dose, there is not enough medicine left in the ready-to-use pen.

  • To complete the dose, you will need a new ready-to-use pen. Please proceed as follows:
  • Note how much medicine is left in the ready-to-use pen and calculate the remaining dose.
  • First inject the medicine remaining in the ready-to-use pen and then inject the calculated additional dose with the new ready-to-use pen (step 1 – 5).
